Refund a payment or cancel a member's subscription
Issue refunds and cancel subscriptions directly from a member's page — protected by a safety lock so nothing money-related can happen by accident. Access and statuses update automatically afterwards.
Unlock the safety lock first
By default, the platform reads from Stripe but can't change anything — refund and cancel buttons are disabled. To perform a money action, open Settings, find the Stripe account card, and flip the writes switch. You'll get a confirmation prompt (with an extra warning if your account is in live mode). Lock it again when you're done; the lock exists so a stray click can never move money.
Refunding a payment
Open the member under Members in your admin. Their page lists recent payments; each refundable payment has a Refund button. You'll be asked to confirm — 'Refund [amount]? This cannot be undone.' — and the full amount of that charge goes back to the customer's card. Once refunded, the payment is marked Refunded and the button disappears.
Refunds flow through the same automatic sync as everything else, so the member's status and access adjust on their own — you don't need to touch their account manually.
Cancelling a subscription
On the same member page, the Cancel subscription button schedules the cancellation for the end of the current paid period — the member keeps everything they've paid for until that date, and no further charges happen. The confirmation shows the exact end date before you commit.
Need something else? You can change the member's plan from the same page (prorated, so they pay only the difference), assign them a coupon as a save-offer instead of cancelling, or grant free access with an optional expiry for goodwill cases.
Step by step
- Open Settings → Stripe account and unlock the writes switch (confirm the prompt).
- Go to Members and open the member in question.
- To refund: find the payment in their payment list and click Refund, then confirm.
- To cancel: click Cancel subscription and confirm the shown end date.
- Verify the member's status badge updates.
- Lock the writes switch again in Settings.
Good to know
- Refunds cannot be undone — double-check the amount and the member before confirming.
- A coupon offer often saves the subscription; try it before processing a cancellation.
